Pencil Pots

The pencil pots originated as a simple form I could draw a story onto. I was influenced by the early 19th C. woodblock prints of Japan. When Japan began to ship porcelain in trade, these prints essentially became packing material. Despite being seen as packaging, people began to appreciate the bold colors, flat compositions and unusual perspectives of these prints as art.
